Batteries do NOT necessarily carry the same warranty as the equipment the operate. For many manufacturers, this means:

Batteries supplied as original equipment carry a 90 day warranty from the purchase date of the equipment. Failures are taken care of by the manufacturers authorized warranty station. 

Replacement batteries, and those purchased as spares also have a 90 day warranty, but replacement is only handled by the store that sold you the battery. Be sure to save your dated proof of purchase document since most of these do not carry serial numbers.

There are exceptions to this policy, so check your owner's manual to be sure.
